Dry eye Management

Understanding Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry Eye Syndrome occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears, produce poor-quality tears, and/or your tears evaporate too quickly. This can lead to discomfort and vision problems.

Common Symptoms include:

  • Persistent dryness

  • Burning or stinging sensations

  • Redness and irritation

  • Blurred vision

  • Sensitivity to light

  • A feeling of having something in the eye

Our Dry Eye Management Services:

  • Tear Film Analysis: Advanced diagnostic tools to measure tear production, tear film stability, and the quality of your tears.

  • Lifestyle and Environmental Recommendations: Advice on lifestyle changes, such as increasing humidity levels and taking regular breaks from screen time, to alleviate dry eye symptoms.

  • Artificial Tears and Lubricants: Prescribing over-the-counter drops, gels and ointments to provide immediate relief and improve tear film quality.

  • Prescription Medications: Medications to reduce inflammation and stimulate natural tear production, such as cyclosporine (Restasis/Cequa/Vevye) or lifitegrast (Xiidra). There is also a medication to help improve evaporation of tears, which is called Miebo.

  • Punctal Plugs: Small devices inserted into the tear ducts to reduce tear drainage and maintain moisture on the eye surface.

  • Lid Hygiene and Warm Compresses: Guidance on maintaining proper eyelid hygiene and using warm compresses to treat underlying issues like blepharitis or meibomian gland dysfunction.

  • Nutritional Supplements: Recommendations for dietary changes or supplements, such as omega-3 fatty acids, that can help improve tear production and eye health.

  • Advanced Therapies: Offering treatments such as intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy to target the root causes of dry eye and provide long-term relief. (Not yet available in the office, but will be soon!)
